About me

Shan is a modern specialist in early pregnancy and complex maternity care. She has been working in obstetrics and gynaecology for more than 17 years in the United Kingdom. She is very approachable and well liked by many women she has cared for and their families. As a consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist within the NHS, she also provides bespoke private maternity care for women from Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Bedfordshire and Greater London.

Shan provides private and flexible consultation as required at the Portland Hospital. She is happy to provide an attractive private pregnancy package with bespoke antenatal care, planned caesarean section and postnatal care at the Portland Hospital for self-funding women.

Shan is also happy to provide private flexible early pregnancy and routine antenatal consultation at the Private Cobham Clinic, Luton and Dunstable Hospital. Surgical management of miscarriage cases is provided as a service for private patients at the Luton and Dunstable Hospital.

Dr. Shan Low holds a substantive NHS post at Luton and Dunstable University Hospital NHS Trust as a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist. She completed her medical degree at Queen's University, Belfast, qualifying in 2001. Her obstetrics and gynaecology training was carried out mainly at tertiary hospitals at Northern Ireland, Mersey and Northern England. Shan has extensive, rich and relevant experience in the speciality and has insight into the care of pregnant women from multi-ethnic and multi-cultural backgrounds.

At Luton & Dunstable Hospital, she led a robust in-house obstetrics emergency training for the maternity workforce from August 2016 to January 2019. Following her tenure, she continues to lend her support to the current organising team. Shan is also the Obstetrics Guideline Lead.

Her other special interest includes management of early pregnancy problems for which she has regular ultrasound clinics in addition to weekly high-risk antenatal clinics.

Shan is a very experienced hands-on obstetrician and manages high-risk deliveries with successful outcome in the NHS.

Apart from the above, she is an examiner for University College London for undergraduates examinations for qualifying doctors - MBBS degree.

Concurrently, she is actively involved in training both foundation doctors and specialist trainees of obstetrics and gynaecologists at all levels.

She is a member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and remains in good standing with the General Medical Council of Great Britain.

Shan is multilingual; fluent in English, Malay and basic Chinese (Cantonese, Mandarin, Hakka and Hokkien).
