About me
James Boyd (Founder of Bear Physio & Performance) graduated with an MSc (Distinction) in Physiotherapy in 2011, after previously completing a BSc in Sport & Physical Exercise in 2006 and is recognised by the Association of Chartered Physiotherapists in Sport & Exercise Medicine (Silver Level Accredited). Since graduating, James has worked within a number of prestigious institutions including The Football Association, The English Institute of Sport, The Royal Ballet, England Hockey, UK Athletics, Volleyball England, Southampton Football Club, West Bromwich Albion Football Club, TeamBath and the NHS. He has been fortunate enough to craft his trade amongst some of the best peers and athletes around.
Whilst his philosophy to healthcare has evolved over the years, his primary goal of facilitating positive change in other's lives has remained a constant. Within his unique brand of physiotherapy, which is 'function focused' as opposed to 'pain focused', he utilises bespoke rehabilitation methods directed to achieving your performance goals. James’ friendly and positive interpersonal skills also make what can be a daunting, ‘medicalised’ experience into a comfortable and efficient one.
James has a strong interest in the areas of foot and ankle injuries, and growth and maturation, having completed a Masters module in Paediatric and Adolescent Sports and Performance Injury Prevention and Management at UCL, as well as hosting podcasts on the topic (watch this space for the Mindfully Active Podcast!). He has then put this theory into practice by working within Premier League Academies, a pre-professional ballet school and working at multi-sport events including the School Games and the Winter World University Games in Almaty, Kazakstan 2017. James is also an advocate of mindfulness and how the mind-body connection is essential to understand when managing any injury.
