About me
Dr Christian Barnick, FRCOG, is an Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, based in central London, with over 30 years of experience.
As well as caring for pregnant women he also specialises in complex Laparoscopic surgery, Fibroids, Endometriosis and Urogynaecology.
He qualified at Guy's Hospital in 1984 and has trained and worked ever since in London teaching hospitals
He practices privately at OBGYN Matters London (co-founder and director) and continues to work part-time as a consultant in the NHS at the Homerton University Hospital.
Christian has had the opportunity to work in many specialist clinics dealing with all aspects of Gynaecology. As a result, he has an in depth knowledge of many areas including, endometriosis, fibroids, pelvic floor problems (prolapse and incontinence) as well as Menopause, Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) and period problems.
Christian is widely recognised nationally and internationally as an excellent gynaecological surgeon. He performs a wide range of gynaecological operations using Minimal Access Techniques.
The more complex laparoscopic (keyhole) surgical procedures he performs are removal of fibroids, excision surgery for advanced Stage IV endometriosis, deep infiltrating endometriosis (DIE) and recto-vaginal endometriosis.
The great advantages of 'key-hole' surgery are less pain, a shorter hospital stay, a quicker recovery, minimal scars and better long-term outcomes. This combination is particularly important to young women who are keen to get on with their lives, maintain their fertility and resume normal activity.
In order to maintain standards, he performs over 200 major and 300 minor operations a year. He also teaches surgical skills both in the UK and abroad and lectures at national and international meetings.
He manages and runs a specialised Endometriosis Centre accredited by the British Society of Gynaecological Endoscopy (BSGE).
Christian's experience in Obstetrics spans 30 years. His care is patient centred and is individualised to each pregnant woman.
Individual women and their partners often have views on how they wish to be managed antenatally and he encourages them to make safe birth choices. These choices are respected in order to give women the birth experience they desire. He is happy to support all birth choices ranging from low intervention to elective Caesarean section.
In Private Practice the vast majority of women have low risk pregnancies and his focus is on risk reduction, early recognition of problems and prevention of possible complications. Nonetheless, emergencies can occur, and his patients may feel reassured that with over 30 years of experience he will be able to deal with any of these should they arise.
He sees it as a real privilege to look after pregnant women and to ensure that they feel confident, safe and informed throughout their pregnancy.
