About me
Mr. Sheikh undertook his basic surgical training in the West Midlands and Mersey region following his graduation in 2001.
He then under took a Doctorate of Medicine (MD) at the University Liverpool, in Translational Cancer Biology studying Cellular interactions in the Pancreatic and Colorectal Cancer microenvironment. This research was funded by a Prestigious Fellowship from the Royal College of Surgeons of England and the Grand Lodge 250th anniversary Fund of the Freemasons.
Mr. Sheikh undertook his higher surgical training in the Mersey region working in high volume Colorectal units undergoing specific training in Inflammatory Bowel disease, Pouch surgery and Abdominal Wall reconstruction surgery. He was then awarded a National Laparoscopic and Advanced Colorectal Cancer Fellowship at the John Goligher Colorectal Surgery Unit, St James Hospital Leeds where he was trained by internationally recognised specialists.
As a former Colorectal Lead and senior consultant at East Lancashire NHS Trust, Mr. Sheikh works closely in a multidisciplinary team allowing him to provide the best possible care to his patients. Mr Sheikh now leads in a wider role as Chair of the cancer Alliance for Lancashire and South Cumbria overseeing cancer services across all disciplines. Previously Mr Sheikh has also been a clinical stream lead for the the New hospital programme for Lancashire and South Cumbria.
He has also been instrumental in establishing and leading the Robotic Colorectal surgery in East Lancashire NHS Trust which he commenced in 2017. He has done numerous major robotic resections and has been a national and international proctor for robotic surgery.
The majority of his spare time is spent with his wife an Endocrinologist and their 2 children.
