About me

I am currently practising as a substantive Consultant Rheumatologist at BHR University Hospitals NHS Trust / King George Hospital in Ilford, Essex.

I graduated from the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka, in 1992 and undertook my junior doctor training in Sri Lanka. I gained my first NHS experience at Royal Free Hospital London in elderly care medicine. This was followed by a position at my current hospital as a Junior Rheumatologist in 2005, from which I progressed to become a substantive Consultant Rheumatologist after having obtained GMC specialist registration in Rheumatology.

My current practice involves looking after patients with all aspects of general rheumatology, including rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, vasculitis osteoporosis, gout and connective tissue diseases such as SLE, Sjogren’s syndrome. I am also interested in musculoskeletal disorders such as tendinitis, ligament sprain, carpal tunnel syndrome, trigger finger, etc.

I am heavily involved in teaching medical students, registrars and GP trainees. I am an examiner for the MBBS medical degree at Barts and the London medical school. I also teach joint injection techniques to local GPs, rheumatology nurse specialists and physiotherapists.
