Expertise and Experience:
Dr Sayers is Director of Serendipity Psychology Services, a team of psychological therapists based across the UK with a central office in Northamptonshire. She is a Clinical Psychologist, Psychotherapist and Counsellor, and is registered as a Practitioner Psychologist with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), a Chartered Psychologist with the British Psychological Society (BPS) and an accredited Counsellor and Psychotherapist with the National Counselling Society (NCS). She is experienced in working with young people, families and adults of all ages and provides specialist assessment, consultation and therapeutic interventions for a range of common psychological issues. Some of these include: depression; anxiety disorders such as health anxiety, panic, phobias and obsessive compulsive disorders (OCD); and trauma including complex trauma and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). She specialises in working with individuals with personality difficulties and those who have complex emotional and interpersonal difficulties that may be linked to trauma.
Dr Sayers uses a number of therapeutic approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Systemic Family Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Psychodynamic Therapy. She specialises in, and is trained intensively in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and DBT-Prolonged Exposure (DBT-PE) approaches which are often used when working with posttraumatic stress and personality difficulties. She is also trained in Schema Therapy, an attachment-based approach to working with complex mental health problems, Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), and Trauma-focused CBT (Prolonged Exposure Therapy).
Over the past ten years Dr Sayers has worked for a number of leading healthcare organisations, both within the NHS and for independent and third-sector providers of mental health care including St Andrews Healthcare and the Priory Group. Her most recent role is as Lead Psychologist and DBT Lead for a specialist programme providing support to women diagnosed with Emotionally Unstable Personality Disorder (EUPD / BPD) who may also struggle with other complex issues related to mood (self-harm, bipolar disorder, depression and anxiety), eating (anorexia, bulimia and binge eating), autistic spectrum conditions (ASD), and psychosis.
Dr Sayers also delivers training for a number of organisations including on the University of Leicester’s Doctoral programme for Clinical Psychologists in Training. She has an extensive background in clinical research having worked as Research and Development Lead within the NHS and has additional British Psychological Society-accredited training and experience as a Professional and Expert Witness, and as a Supervisor.
