About me

Mr Fayaz Callachand was appointed as Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon in Altnagelvin Area Hospital in 2019. This is a busy NHS trauma and elective orthopaedic unit.
Fayaz specialises in hip and knee surgery, performing predominantly primary and revision arthroplasty, as well as soft tissue knee and ACL surgery.
Fayaz graduated in Medicine from Queen’s University Belfast, and completed his specialist orthopaedic training in Northern Ireland. In 2016, he undertook a 1 year arthroplasty fellowship in Cappagh National Orthopaedic Hospital, Dublin, with Prof John O’Byrne. This fellowship covered all aspects of lower limb joint arthroplasty including partial, complex primary and revision.
Fayaz has a keen in interest in research, and has presented and published on a national and international level. He was part of a team that set up a multi-centre international study into the use of Next Generation Sequencing in diagnosing bone and joint infections, currently ongoing in Cappagh Hospital.
Fayaz enjoys education and regularly teaches as a faculty member on ATLS courses in Northern Ireland.
