About me

Dr Berntsen is a Consultant Psychologist and Neuropsychologist. She provides assessments for and treatments for individuals over the age of 6 years old for most psychological, psychiatric and neurological problems.

Her therapeutic approach is integrative, using targeting modalities and approaches to suit individual needs. She often use solution focused approaches such as CBT and mindfulness for shorter-term work for more specific difficulties, and psychodynamic approaches for attachment and trauma in longer term work.

She has worked for CAMHS neurodevelopmental service, adult inpatient rehabilitation and recovery services focusing on EUPD, complex trauma and psychotic disorders, and private practice working with individual of all ages and with a broad range of challenges.

She provides services to children over the age of 6 years old and adults including: neuropsychological and neurocognitive assessments, ADHD and ASD assessments, personality disorder assessment, and general psychological assessments. She also provides specialist treatments for the consequences of stroke, traumatic brain injury and neurodegenerative disorders using brain stimulation (TMS and tACS), quantitative electroencephalogram (qEEG) and EEG Neurofeedback.

Areas of interest

Mood disorders, anxiety disorders, neurodevelopmental disorders (ASD and ADHD), OCD, trauma and PTSD, relational and attachment problems, eating disorders, oppositional defiance, neurodegenerative conditions, strokes and traumatic brain injuries.

Minimum age for individual therapy is 10. For younger children, I tend to do more work with the family around the child.
