About me
I am Dr Maria Vella, a Psychologist in Psychotherapy with over twenty years of clinical experience, practicing in London.
I have carried out research specifically studying what makes therapy beneficial. I work integratively, combining the strengths of the Psychoanalytic, Humanistic-Existential, Compassionate-focused and Cognitive-Behavioural approaches. This allows me the flexibility to offer a bespoke service paying special attention to the particular needs of my clients. I pay attention to the transcultural aspect in psychotherapy as I have practised in different countries. My areas of expertise include complex anxiety, stress, depression, anger management, low self-esteem, multicultural issues, trauma, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, loss, bereavement, sexual and psychological abuse, and psychosexual problems.
My aim is to help individuals to face meaninglessness, isolation and lack of purpose in life, especially those triggered by stressful events and life transitions. I work with couples presenting with relational issues and infidelity. I also do coaching and help people with their vocational discernment.
I also work in academia, lecturing in psychology and psychotherapy. I conduct Zoom and FaceTime psychotherapy.
I am chartered with the British Psychological Society, an Associate Fellow of the BPS and registered with the Health and Care Professions Council.
