About me

Mr Robert Davies is a senior consultant vascular and endovascular surgeon at the Leicester Vascular Institute, part of University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust (UHL). He also serves as Clinical Director for the Renal, Respiratory and Cardiovascular (RRCV) Clinical Management Group, overseeing a workforce of over 2,000 colleagues. He practices exclusively as a vascular specialist, providing expert care for patients with both arterial and venous disease, across a busy NHS setting and the private sector.

Uniquely qualified in both open vascular surgery and minimally invasive endovascular techniques, Mr Davies offers patients an unbiased, comprehensive expert opinion on the full range of available treatment options. His super-specialist clinical interest lies in arterial conditions affecting the lower limbs, and he is widely regarded as a national leader in the treatment of complex lower limb arterial disease. In addition, he has a specific interest in thoracic outlet surgery, providing advanced treatment for patients with this challenging vascular condition.

He pioneered the establishment of the Leicester Vascular Limb Salvage (VaLS) Service, which is now recognised nationally and adopted as a model by multiple NHS trusts. He also founded the Vascular Limb Salvage Academy, an initiative for which he was named 'Most Inspiring Role Model' by University Hospitals of Leicester in 2018.

Mr Davies is one of four consultant vascular surgeons at the Circulation Clinic (www.CirculationClinic.com), where he works alongside Mr Gregory McMahon, Mr Harjeet Rayt, and Mr Tryfon Vainas. The clinic offers specialist vascular and endovascular services in a unique team-based model. All complex arterial and venous cases are discussed in a multidisciplinary team (MDT) environment, and patients benefit from collaborative decision-making and, when appropriate, dual consultant operating ensuring the highest standard of care.

Appointed as a consultant in 2012, Mr Davies became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS) in 2011. He was awarded a scholarship by the British Society of Endovascular Therapists, enabling advanced post-certification training in complex lower limb endovascular interventions. He is also an honorary senior lecturer in medical education at the University of Leicester.

Mr Davies maintains an active research portfolio in both clinical and educational domains. He is a successful co-applicant on several high-value research grants, a frequent speaker at national and international conferences, and a prolific contributor to peer-reviewed medical journals. His work continues to advance the fields of vascular surgery, limb salvage, and medical education.
