About me
Abhi Gulihar is a fellowship trained orthopaedic surgeon specialising in surgery of the shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand. He has a special interest in keyhole surgery of the shoulder, shoulder replacement surgery and the management of sports injuries. Abhi believes in evidence based practice whilst utilising the latest techniques, with an emphasis on patient centred care.
Abhi completed his specialist orthopaedic training in East Midlands and Kent, Surrey and Sussex and then went on to do fellowships at the South West London Elective Orthopaedic Centre and the European Arthroscopy Fellowship. He has also taken the opportunity to visit several experts in Shoulder surgery in Europe and USA to learn the latest advances and techniques. He now has a busy NHS practice at the Kings College Hospital NHS trust managing routine and complex conditions and injuries of the upper limb.
Mr Gulihar firmly believes that the majority of upper limb injuries can be managed without surgery. In some cases, Mr Gulihar advocates early fixation of fractures to allow early mobilisation and faster return to work/sport whilst preventing long term problems such as arthritis/ limited function. These include displaced fractures of the clavicle/ collarbone, wrist (distal radius/scaphoid) and hand (metacarpals).
Abhi has a particular interest in education and research. He is currently the departmental lead for education and training. He teaches on various training courses and has won several research and teaching awards. He has more than 20 publications in peer reviewed journals and has presented his research at prestigious national and international conferences. He has completed two research degrees including a Masters in Orthopaedic Engineering and an MD in joint cartilage research from the University of Leicester
