About me
Mr Shivakumar Shankar is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in hip and knee surgery, with particular expertise in robotic and computer-navigated hip and knee replacement.
He has extensive experience in total hip replacement, minimally invasive hip replacement, total knee replacement, partial knee replacement and complex hip and knee surgery. His practice also includes knee arthroscopy, meniscal repair, knee cartilage reconstruction and PRP injections for selected knee conditions.
Mr Shankar is fellowship trained, having completed a Lower Limb Arthroplasty Fellowship at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore, followed by specialist fellowship training in computer-navigated and robotic hip and knee arthroplasty at the Golden Jubilee Hospital, Glasgow. He also undertook an international travelling fellowship in Germany, gaining further experience in the anterior approach to hip replacement.
He offers a range of hip replacement approaches, including minimally invasive, posterior and Rottinger muscle-sparing approaches, with the choice tailored to the individual patient.
He has been involved in more than 8,000 elective and trauma procedures, including over 3,000 hip and knee replacements and more than 1,000 knee arthroscopic procedures.
Mr Shankar has been an NHS Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon since 2017 and has held senior clinical leadership and teaching roles within Trauma and Orthopaedics. He holds an MSc in Trauma & Orthopaedics from University College London, MRCS, FRCSEd (Tr & Orth) and a formal diploma in Computer-Assisted and Robotic Orthopaedic Surgery.
