About me
Mr. Holmes is a fully qualified Plastic Surgeon with a full time NHS practise offering all aspects of plastic and reconstructive surgery with sub-specialist interests in Breast Reconstruction, skin cancer treatment and scar revision
He performs surgery for all types of skin cancer including squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), basal cell carcinoma (BCC, Rodent ulcers) and early melanoma. He provides all types of skin reconstruction including skin grafts, local flaps and free tissue transfer. He is a member of the local skin oncology MDT and has close links with the specialist MDT in Leeds to compliment his busy skin cancer practise treating and preventing all types of skin cancer in Pinderfields Hospital.
Mr Holmes is part of the Midyorkshire Breast Reconstruction Service and is a member of the local specialist Breast Multidisciplinary Team (MDT). He has a wealth of experience in breast reconstruction having successfully completed two prestigious fellowships in microvascular breast reconstruction. His training has led to a preference to perform free tissue transfer such as the DIEP, TUG and other free flaps to reconstruct breasts utilising patient's own tissue. He also performs latissimus dorsi flap reconstruction and is experienced with all types of implant-based reconstruction. In his NHS practise he has develop his unit's free flap DIEP service into one that commands some of the shortest length of stays in the country with outcomes comparable with the best units in the country. He complements this breast reconstructive practise with other techniques such as fat grafting, symmetry techniques and innovative recovery programs to shorten length of stay and improve recovery.
Mr Holmes trained in Yorkshire after a junior fellowship at Groote Schuur Hospital in Cape Town. Following his plastic surgery training, he completed competitively awarded fellowships in skin oncology and breast microsurgical reconstruction at prestigious units in the UK. This was followed by a nationally awarded aesthetic fellowship. Mr Holmes qualified in Medicine from Glasgow University and completed his basic surgical training in Glasgow and Liverpool.
He is a full member of the Association of Breast surgeons ABS. He is also a member of the British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (BAPRAS), and adheres to their code of practise.
