About me

Dr Shaikh qualified from the University of Nottingham in 2001. She has trained in Nottingham, Cardiff, London and Liverpool and this broad experience has provided an excellent grounding in all aspects of cardiology. Her specialty interest is cardiac imaging, specifically advanced echocardiography and cardiac MRI. She has lectured locally and nationally on these topics.

Dr Shaikh investigates and treats a broad range of cardiac issues including chest pain, palpitations, hypertension, heart failure and heart valve disease. Her PhD involved studying sleep and she has a particular interest in the crossover between sleep disorders and cardiac health.

She can perform and interpret all initial cardiac investigations including echocardiography (ultrasound scanning of the heart). If required, Dr Shaikh performs this echocardiogram at the same time as the initial appointment. She can arrange advanced cardiac imaging with CT or MRI if necessary. She can also arrange for any invasive testing if required.

She knows how unsettling cardiac symptoms can be and strives to get to the root cause of the issues whilst being as reassuring as possible.

Dr Shaikh is a fellow on the NHS Clinical Entrepreneurs programme and has augmented her medical career with a new media-driven initiative entitled “The Fresh Heart Project” www.freshheartproject.com. This was initially set up to disseminate evidence-based information on optimising health and preventing cardiac disease via podcasts and videos. Fresh Heart Project is now a health focused film and video production company. She is currently producing the initial slate of Fresh Heart Project short films.
