About me
Having qualified as a Clinical Psychologist in 2005 at Newcastle University, I have gained extensive experience within the NHS. I have worked with adults experiencing a range of mental health difficulties and emotional distress.
My role has included extensive experience of working with people with complex mental health difficulties and those with neurodegenerative conditions, as well as people who can benefit from focused, time limited therapeutic interventions.
I draw on a range of different therapeutic approaches, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy to develop a shared psychological understanding of the person’s unique story and the difficulties they are facing.
This understanding forms the basis for working collaboratively on difficult patterns of thinking that can fuel emotional difficulties, and thereby begin the journey to recovery.
I feel that creating a safe, comfortable space for people is central to recovery and healing, and I aim to create this atmosphere based on empathy, trust and compassionate attention.
I am also trained as Mindfulness teacher, and I use Mindfulness, and Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) as part of individually tailored interventions to aid recovery and progress. An essential element of teaching MBCT is to ‘teach from experience’, and this means that I also practice mindfulness on a daily basis in order to be able to share the benefits of this approach with others.
