About me

I am a Counsellor/Therapist working with adults, older people, couples and groups in and around Chelmsford and Saffron Walden. I also offer remote appointments, by telephone or video.

About my qualifications and training:

I am an accredited member of British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists; a professional accredited member of National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society (NCPS), and a British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC) accredited Dynamic Interpersonal Therapy (DIT) therapist.

I am registered with BUPA and a range of Employee Assistance providers as an authorised therapist. I am also a Supervisor of qualified and trainee counsellors, both individual and groups; and a qualified groupwork practitioner and trainer/workshop leader on a number of mental health related subjects including anxiety and stress.

How can counselling help?

As a therapist, I offer my clients a confidential, professional, reliable and ethically sound service so they can be assured that they have a safe place to talk. I can provide counselling on a short or long term basis. I work individually, with couples and other relationships as well as groups. I have significant experience including working with anxiety, bereavement and loss, depression, low self-confidence or self-esteem, relationship problems, stress and work related issues.

Making a decision to come for counselling is the first step on a journey to discovering and understanding more about yourself, your past and present relationships and your place in the world, and I can help you:

- through unexpected life events, periods of change or loss
- to explore, understand and learn to manage overwhelming emotions
- identify and work through old patterns of behaviour that no longer work or cause anxiety
- to develop a great sense of self confidence and/or more fulfilling relationships

How does counselling work?

We will identify and agree your goals from counselling, and work at your own pace, providing time and space to talk openly about issues, explore feelings and thoughts as individuals and in relationships with others and consider how past experiences and current behaviour may be connected. In other words, to understand what might drive you to do what you do and feel what you feel and why. Gaining such insight and understanding can be key in finding a way to a calmer and more fulfilled sense of self and achieving goals from counselling. Of course your goals from counselling can change over time, and we can work with whatever you bring into our time together.

How long will counselling last?

Each counselling session will be 50 minutes.

The duration of counselling depends on what you bring and want to achieve from counselling, but in my experience, you will know when the work of therapy is complete. Clients can attend as few or as many sessions as they wish. Some clients prefer to work with an open-ended contract, whereas some clients want to work with a fixed number of sessions, followed by a review to agree that the work is complete or to continue with further sessions. In all cases, the we will regularly review the therapeutic process and progress together. This helps to assess whether the client’s needs are being met and if required to adjust the process and/or establish new goals for the work.

What else can I offer?

As a supervisor, I work either individually with counsellors in training or qualified counsellors providing supervision on a fortnightly or monthly basis; as well as with groups, providing clinical supervision on a monthly basis, or other frequencies as required.
