About me

Mr Spyros Panagiotopoulos is a Consultant General and Bariatric/Metabolic Surgeon, with NHS base at King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

Mr Spyros Panagiotopoulos graduated in 1998 from Medical School of National and Kapodistrian University of Athens in Greece.
He followed an integrated 6 year residency program in General Surgery with specialist laparoscopic and upper gastrointestinal training at University Hospital of Patras, Greece and at IRCAD (Research Institute for Digestive Cancer) in Strasbourg, France.
He gained his Certificate of Completion of Training in 2008 (following Board Exams) at University Hospital of Patras in Greece, where he continued his higher specialist training in metabolic and bariatric surgery in the Bariatric & Metabolic Unit at UHP (IFSO--Centre of Excellence).
He followed further specialist training (Fellowship) on Acute Surgery (Emergency General Surgery & Major Trauma Surgery) at King's College Hospital in 2012 where subsequently was appointed as Consultant Surgeon.

In 2013 he was awarded his PhD with honours in the field of metabolic and bariatric surgery and was accredited in 2018 as a metabolic/bariatric surgeon at King's College Hospital in London.

He has gained his Fellowship of Royal College of Surgeons (England) in 2016.

He holds full membership of the Association of Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery of Great Britain and Ireland (AUGIS), British Obesity & Metabolic Surgery Society (BOMSS), the International Federation of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders (IFSO) and the European Association for Endoscopic Surgery (EAES).

Mr Panagiotopoulos specialises in performing advanced laparoscopic (key-hole) surgery for all operations (elective and emergencies). His special interests are in:
a. Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery,
b. Benign Biliary Disease Surgery,
c. Hernia Surgery and
d. Acute Surgical Conditions.

He is clinical supervisor in Bariatric & Metabolic Surgery and Acute Surgery Training (Emergency General and Major Trauma Surgery) at King's College Hospital (specializing in high-risk surgical patients).
