About me
Choosing a counsellor can be a difficult process therefore I believe that it is important to have some knowledge of your chosen therapist's theoretical background and working methods. For approximately 7 years I have worked with NHS patients at both GP surgeries and primary care health centres across Kent.
I am experienced at working with a diverse range of emotional and psychological problems including, anxiety, depression, self esteem, trauma, loss and the emotional consequences of psychological abuse. I also have training and experience of working with survivors of both adult and childhood rape, sexual abuse and childhood neglect.
My working method is integrative which means I adopt more than one theoretical approach but predominately incorporates Person Centered and Cognitive Behavioural techniques. Person Centered is a non authoritative, non judgemental approach to counselling which offers an individual a safe environment to talk freely, adjust negative self concepts and subsequently overcome 'blocks' which may hinder or prevent both emotional and personal fulfilment. Cognitive behavioural techniques involve a therapist helping to identify and change unhelpful patterns of thinking which can often both trigger and maintain psychological and emotional distress.
A first or initial session would be an opportunity for you to discuss your needs and expectations from therapy. I also feel that it is an important opportunity to decide whether you feel that your chosen therapist is suitable for you and that you would feel comfortable working together.
I am an accredited member of the B.A.C.P (membership number 710198) and I hold a current enhanced DBS certificate. I am able to offer short or long term therapy according to the wishes and needs of the individual client. I am aware that owing to employment commitments it can often be difficult for individuals to attend daytime sessions, therefore I can offer evening and weekend (Saturday) appointments subject to availability.
