About me

My specialist interests are in the area of anxiety, stress, depression and health psychology. I work in a practical way supporting my clients to understand patterns (habits) relating to their presentation. By guiding people to reflect on themselves, they ultimately feel empowered to make changes and try something new.

I have worked for years in the field of brain injury rehabilitation and with complex health conditions and have a keen interest in how the brain processes information (cognition) and how we learn new information (neuroplasticity). My experience of working with brain injury makes me different from CBT therapists, counsellors and other psychologists as it is an extra level of knowledge that I can apply to working with people.

In addition to my private practice I work in the NHS as a Consultant Clinical Psychologist in the complex care division of my health board and lead the Huntington's Disease team. As a specialist in Health Psychology I have worked with cancer patients, complex long term health conditions including people with spinal cord injuries, locked in syndrome and permanently ventilated patients, during the COVID crisis I worked in critical care supporting patients, their families and staff.

When I work with clients, I might use psychometric assessment to inform understanding of personality and how this influences how we experience our worlds and relate to other people. I also use other measures of anxiety and depression to track the outcome of the work we do together. This is an important part of therapeutic work.

I am an approachable psychologist and have ensured that I am well trained (holding 2 doctoral level degrees in my field) but don't let this put you off... I'm very humble in my approach to my profession and learn something new every day from the people I meet.

I am also an expert witness accredited through Bond Solon and Cardiff University.
