About me

Mr Thomas Crompton is a highly experienced and compassionate consultant orthopaedic surgeon, specialising in the full range of musculoskeletal conditions affecting infants, children, and adolescents. He offers expert care for a wide spectrum of paediatric orthopaedic disorders from newborn hip dysplasia to complex neuromuscular conditions and has a particular clinical interest in paediatric trauma and cerebral palsy.

Based at the Royal Alexandra Children's Hospital in Brighton, Mr Crompton is recognised for delivering high-quality, child-focused care across London and the South East. His approach combines cutting-edge surgical expertise with a strong emphasis on non-operative management wherever possible.

Mr Crompton graduated in medicine from Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry in 2004. He completed his orthopaedic surgical training at the renowned Guy's and St Thomas' hospitals in London, followed by two prestigious fellowships in children's orthopaedics one at The Royal London Hospital and the other at Westmead Children's Hospital in Sydney, Australia.

In 2016, he was appointed as a Consultant in Paediatric Orthopaedics at the Royal Alexandra Children's Hospital where he leads a busy clinical practice treating children from across the region.

Mr Crompton provides comprehensive assessment and treatment for a wide range of orthopaedic conditions in children of all ages, including:

Developmental Dysplasia of the Hip (DDH)

Slipped Capital Femoral Epiphysis (SCFE)

Perthes Disease

Cerebral Palsy & Neuromuscular Disorders

Foot & Ankle Deformities (including flat feet, cavovarus foot, and hallux valgus)

Growth Plate & Limb Deformities (including guided growth procedures)

Paediatric Trauma & Fractures

Minimally Invasive Surgical Techniques

In addition to his paediatric work, he also provides trauma care for adult patients as part of a major trauma centre team.

Mr Crompton is known for his clear, empathetic communication and commitment to family-focused care. He places great importance on thoroughly assessing each child's condition before exploring treatment options ensuring that families understand all available choices.

In many cases, he advocates for conservative (non-surgical) management, reserving surgical intervention only when it is the most appropriate and effective option.

An active educator and published author, Mr Crompton contributes to medical training and research in children's orthopaedics. He also serves as a reserve officer with the Royal Air Force's Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron, reflecting his dedication to both public service and clinical excellence.

He supports several medical charities, including Rockinghorse, Ronald McDonald House Brighton, and the SPRINT Fund, all of which focus on improving care for young patients and their families.

Outside of medicine, Mr Crompton enjoys racquet sports, golf, skiing, and outdoor pursuits maintaining an active lifestyle that mirrors his holistic approach to health and wellbeing.
