About me

I am a Clinical Psychologist who takes a compassionate and holistic approach to supporting people to understand and overcome emotional and psychological difficulties which may be having a significant impact on their health and well-being and/or their work and relationships.

My professional training and work experiences enable me to draw on and integrate a broad range of therapeutic approaches which means that I can help you in the most effective and appropriate ways. I have a special interest in therapeutic approaches which understand and support the health and well-being of both mind and body which means that you will potentially feel physical as well psychological benefits from therapy.

I will help you to recognise and understand the factors which may have contributed to the development and maintenance of your difficulties and also, more importantly, support you to recognise and reconnect with your innate strengths and abilities, so that even when our work ends you will have more resources to deal with life challenges and to make the most of your potential.

In addition to my psychological skills and knowledge, I am also able to draw on and integrate holistic practices such as tai chi and yoga, where appropriate, to support the embodiment of new knowledge and skills. My interest and experience of using body based approaches is particularly helpful for people who have experienced early difficulties which are more likely to be stored in implicit memory and in the body and are less accessible to traditional 'talk therapy'. These approaches are particularly useful for developing attention and awareness of cognitive, sensory and emotional processes and supporting the regulation of both high and low levels of arousal that may otherwise interfere with therapeutic processing of emotionally intense experiences. My knowledge and experiences of these body based approaches is integrated with an understanding of the role of neurobiology and physiology in the development and maintenance of psychological difficulties particularly those that relate to emotional and interpersonal difficulties.

I have worked with clients with a wide range of difficulties, some of which have been complex and long standing, including trauma and attachment issues. I can offer short term therapy within the context of a safe and containing therapeutic relationship that focuses on supporting you to develop a sense of safety and security in your mind and body which can be a helpful foundation to later trauma focused work. Where appropriate, I can also work on emotional and relational difficulties using a short term intensive psychodynamic approach which is associated with deeper and longer standing therapeutic change than purely cognitive approaches.
