About me

Hi! Im Elizabeth and Im a Clinical Psychologist with The Oak Tree Practice (www.theoaktreepractice.com) and Little Bee Clinic (www.littlebeeclinic.com)

Can you tell me a bit about your background?
?
I started my career in psychology after completing training in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT). I then worked at the National Academy for Parenting Practitioners, where I developed a passion for working with parents and children together. I later completed doctoral training in Clinical Psychology. I have experience and enjoy working with both adults and children and young people. Over the course of the last eighteen months I have worked at The Tavistock and Portman Clinic, as well as well as within a parental mental health service providing psychological therapy for parents, families and children under five.
??
What will it be like when I meet you??

For me, the most important part of therapy is developing a good relationship. I therefore try and ensure that my clients feel able to express themselves, and leave feeling that I have listened and understood what we have discussed. My approach is warm, friendly and compassionate. Our first meeting will involve working together to understand what sort of support could be useful in helping you to move forward, and what to expect from working with me. Depending on the type of therapy I provide, I may ask you to try things out between sessions that I think could be helpful. ?

What therapies do you use and what kind of difficulties do you help people with?

I am an integrative therapist which means that I adapt the therapies I use to meet individual needs. When we first meet I will ask you what you are hoping for out of working with me and use appropriate therapies to help you meet your goals. The core therapies I use are, Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and Schema Therapy. All of my work is informed by Psychodynamic principles, this means I will be interested in how the relationship we develop throughout therapy may help inform us about past and present relationships in your life.

The way in which I work can help people experiencing a wide range of emotional or relational difficulties related to stress, low mood, anxiety, worry, angrer, low self-esteem, troubles with calming down big emotions, or life transitions. I have a specialist interest and experience in working with parents and their children and am trained in a number of parenting interventions. These can be helpful in understanding difficulties in parent-child relationships, and child related emotional and behavioural difficulties.

What do I enjoy outside of psychology?

Outside of psychology I enjoy being outdoors, and walking and running in the green spaces in and around London. I love swimming outdoors in lidos, lakes, rivers and the sea. Music is a huge part of my life and I love a wide variety of genres. I enjoy trying to find new bands and going to see live music. I regularly practice yoga and mindfulness both of which are important to my own sense of happiness and wellbeing.
