About me

I have worked as a Chartered Clinical Psychologist for the National Health Service (NHS) in Bedfordshire Adult Mental Health Services for over 20 years before moving into independent practice. My work has frequently involved helping people deal with the lasting effects of traumatic events or relationships, important losses or changes, or symptoms which have been significantly restricting people’s lives. My interest in working with people suffering with difficulties related to COVID 19 (Coronavirus) has led me to complete additional training for treating with people recently traumatised or living with ongoing trauma, such as the direct or direct effects of the pandemic.

I draw from a wide range of effective, evidence-based psychological therapies to develop individually tailored treatments to help people achieve more fulfilling lives. These psychological therapies, which are all recommended in NICE (National Institute for Clinical Excellence) government guidelines for the treatment of psychological difficulties, include Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), Systemic Family Therapy, and Mindfulness.

I am passionate and enthusiastic about my work in assisting people to lead more satisfying lives by helping them make sense of their problems, understanding why these difficulties have persisted, and developing ways of managing them. I work with compassion and with sensitivity to each person and their particular needs.

I completed my Clinical Psychology Doctorate level training at the University of Southampton in 1999. My keen interest in considering people and their difficulties within their couple, family and wider systems led me to a further four year Masters course in Systemic Psychotherapy. I qualified with Distinction as a Family Psychotherapist from the Tavistock and Portman Clinic, University of East London in 2007.

I have considerable experience using psychological treatments to work with individuals, couples, families and groups. I also have substantial experience teaching, supervising, training and offering consultation to others in psychological approaches to mental health care.

Over the last decade, the focus of my work has been with people who have survived single or multiple traumatic events or relationships and other significantly distressing life events. To support this interest and ensure I remain abreast of developments in the Clinical Psychology field, I have undertaken further training and development in EMDR, DBT skills and Mindfulness. More recently, I have been developing my interest in the impact of psychological difficulties on our bodies and our physiology. I have recently gained accreditations with EMDR Europe. I work with a number of charities including working with military veterans, refugees, and supporting witnesses and staff at public inquiries.

I am a Chartered member of the British Psychological Society (BPS), EMDR Europe Accredited Practitioner, registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), and a member of the Association of Family Therapy (AFT) and of EMDR- UK. I offer treatment at two clinics serving towns and villages across Bedfordshire, but also accessible from Northamptonshire, Cambridgeshire, Buckinghamshire and Hertfordshire. Clinics are situated in Bedford town centre and also in Ampthill/Flitwick.
