About me

I am Peter Simcock MB ChB DO FRCP FRCS FRCOphth a cataract surgeon and retina specialist. I have been a Consultant Eye Surgeon for 18 years and have a wealth of experience in treating cataract, retinal and macular problems. I trained in prestigious teaching hospitals including Moorfields in London and the Manchester Royal Eye Hospital. I have 3 medical diplomas as a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians, Surgeons of England and Ophthalmologists.

Areas of interest

Premium refractive microincision cataract surgery; Retinal surgery for floaters, retinal detachment, epiretinal membranes, macular holes; Injection treatments for wet macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease and retinal vein occlusions.

Current NHS consultant posts held

I have been a substantive NHS Consultant at the West of England Eye Unit of the Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital since 1996.

Research interests

I have 45 scientific articles in peer reviewed journals and have also published 3 books. My research interests included limited posture macular hole surgery and combined lens removal at the time of vitrectomy surgery for macular holes, epiretinal membranes and floaters. I also have a clinical research interest in macular degeneration and was Principle Investigator in the MERLOT study in Exeter.

Personal interests

I enjoy time with my young family in the South West of England in my VW camper van.

Awards received

I have a national clinical excellence award (Bronze) for my services to the NHS.
