Background:
Dr David Hughes is a full time NHS Consultant in Diabetes and Endocrinologist at University Hospitals of Derby & Burton NHS Trust. He is also an Assistant Professor of Endocrinology at the University of Notitngham. He qualified in 2003 from the University of Southampton and undertook Specialist Training in Diabetes & Endocrinology in the West Midlands Deanery. He holds a research Doctorate of Medine (MD) from the Univeristy of Birmingham and continues to participate in Diabetes & Endocrinology research.
He provides the following sub-speciality clinics in the NHS: General endocrinology, adrenal disease, endocrine neoplasia surveillance, diabetes with renal disease, diabetes related foot disease & bariatric medicine

He is a Trustee for the Association for the Study of Obesity and is involved in professional education in association with colleagues throughout the UK.

He is happy to provide an initial opinions, ongoing care or even second opinions for patients. He strongly believes in collaborating with both NHS & Private Practice colleagues to provide optimum patient care.

Research:
He has a research degree (MD) from the Department of Clinical & Experimental Medicine at the University of Birmingham and continues to actively participate in research at Royal Derby Hospital.

General Endocrinology & Diabetes; Adrenal disease – Conns, Cushings, Pheochromocytoma, Adenoma; Thyroid disease – Under and Overactive Thyroid disease (Not cancers); Pituitary disease – Adenomas, raised Prolactin levels; Parathyroid disease – Calcium abnormalities; Low testosterone in men; Polycystic ovarian disease (Not fertility care); Endocrinology related cancer care; Bariatric Medicine (Complex obesity management).
