About me
Mr David Whitehead is a Consultant ENT and Facial Plastic Surgeon practising exclusively from Harley Street, London. He is the founder of NOSE London (nose.london), a specialist nasal surgery practice at 9 Harley Street, with surgery performed at Weymouth Street Hospital.
He is one of very few UK surgeons who combines full ENT training with a dedicated facial plastic surgery fellowship. This dual background matters more than it sounds: a nose has to work as well as it looks, and the two are decided by the same structures. Mr Whitehead is Board Certified in Cosmetic Surgery of the Face, Nose, Periorbital Region and Ears by the Intercollegiate Board of the Royal College of Surgeons, one of the most rigorous cosmetic surgery credentials available in the UK, and has been on the GMC Specialist Register for Otolaryngology since 2012.
He completed his rhinology fellowship at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust under Professor Tim Woolford, followed by a facial plastic surgery fellowship in Istanbul under Professor Ozcan Cakmak, accredited by the European Academy of Facial Plastic Surgery. He previously held a substantive NHS consultant post in rhinology, anterior skull base surgery and advanced facial plastic surgery.
Rhinoplasty. Mr Whitehead offers the full range of rhinoplasty: primary, revision and complex revision, ethnic and male rhinoplasty, and nasal tip surgery. He works with preservation rhinoplasty techniques, which retain the natural dorsal line rather than removing and rebuilding it, and uses ultrasonic piezo instruments for bone work in place of older chisels. Every patient has 3D photographic surgical planning with Vectra imaging, so the goal is seen and agreed before the operation rather than described in words.
Septorhinoplasty. Where a nose is both blocked and out of shape, most often years after an injury, the septum and the external framework are corrected together in one operation. This is where the ENT training earns its place: the airway is measured and treated in its own right, not as an afterthought to the aesthetic result. Mr Whitehead also treats broken noses and post-traumatic nasal deformity.
Septoplasty and the nasal airway. He treats deviated septum, nasal obstruction, nasal blockage, nasal valve collapse and turbinate hypertrophy, and assesses every airway fully before recommending any operation. Alongside this he manages chronic sinusitis, nasal polyps, rhinitis and allergic rhinitis, including ClariFix cryotherapy for chronic rhinitis, and loss of smell, a subject he has published on.
His research interests include preservation and revision rhinoplasty, nasal valve and functional airway surgery, 3D surgical planning, and patient-reported outcome measures. He is a member of the European Academy of Facial Plastic Surgery, The Rhinoplasty Society of Europe, the British Society of Facial Plastic Surgery and the British Rhinological Society, and holds an MSc in Surgical Technology from Imperial College London alongside his MBBS from Guy's, King's and St Thomas' School of Medicine.
