About me

Simon G Levy MD MRCP FRCS FRCOphth is a Consultant Ophthalmologist in private and NHS practice, whose expertise is in the ‘front’ of the eye –
 Refractive surgery (laser and lens implants)
 Cataract surgery
 Cornea surgery
 Eye surface disorders
Dr Levy’s specialist Fellowships were at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London and the prestigious Gimble Eye Centre in Canada where he was trained by Dr Howard V Gimble, a founding father of modern eye surgery. He holds the FRCS and FRCOphth Diplomas in clinical ophthalmology and a research MD on cornea pathology. Before becoming an ophthalmologist he trained in internal medicine and was awarded the MRCP (UK) Diploma.
His clinical emphasis when performing refractive and cataract procedures is on minimising spectacle dependence and maximising quality of vision using leading edge technologies and on optimising his patients’ physical and mental comfort during treatment.
Dr Levy was amongst the first surgeons in the UK to do Lasik laser eye surgery. Other career highlights include performing the first no-suture cornea transplant in the UK, implanting the first Intacs cornea devices for the reversible treatment of short sight and subsequently advising NICE (the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence) on their introduction for keratoconus. He was the first ophthalmologist in the UK to use several innovative intraocular lens implant technologies during cataract and refractive surgery – the M-flex T by Rayner (for the simultaneous correction of both reading glasses and astigmatism), the EyePCL by EyeOL UK (reversible correction of all refractive errors including reading glasses without removing the eye’s natural lens) and the InFo Lens by Swiss Advanced Vision (an extended-depth-of-focus device to maximise quality of vision and reduce the need for reading glasses). For patients suffering from dry eye or blepharitis Dr Levy was the first to provide an important new treatment for these disorders - Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) therapy using the M22 IPL by Lumenis.
Dr Levy’s private practice is at selected centres with superb equipment – Spire Hospital Bushey and the Wellington Hospital, London. In the NHS he is at London North West Healthcare NHS Trust.
Outside work he has children at university, enjoys the visual arts, travelling and hiking and has gourmet tendencies.
