About me
I am a registered and accredited counsellor and psychotherapist with more than 12 years experience working with clients (formerly in the NHS) and now in private practice. Welcome to my profile page.
If you are thinking about coming to see a counsellor or psychotherapist you may be feeling unhappy or confused or have relationship or family difficulties. Perhaps you are suffering from work-related stress, have experienced loss or trauma of some kind or want to find a more meaningful way of living.
We all have difficult periods or experiences in our life and talking to someone skilled and trained can really help you find a way forward.
About me
I am an experienced psychotherapist and have worked with a range of clients within and outside of the NHS. I am accredited by the BACP, which means I have achieved high standards in my work as an independent, ethical and competent therapist.
I work relationally which means I place a strong emphasis on the importance of the therapeutic relationship I build with clients. This enables me to think with my clients about the connection between past and present in the difficulties they are experiencing.
How I can help
Sometimes we can feel very stuck, either in our relationships or with particular emotional problems or painful life events and find it hard to know how to move through these difficult times.
My aim when working with clients is to offer a confidential, safe and supportive space where together we can begin to make sense of your thoughts and feelings and help you to understand yourself better.
Feeling heard, deeply understood and accepted can help you to explore your feelings more fully and openly and enable you to think about yourself in ways that you have not been able to consider before as well as develop skills for coping with emotional difficulties.
As a result, it is possible for you to feel like you have greater clarity, more choices and can change old ways of being that may have led to you feeling anxious, down or depressed. In turn this can lead to more satisfying relationships and ways of living.
I can help you:
• Feel supported and less alone
• understand unhelpful patterns in your relationships,
• understand issues from the past
• Work through stuck or recurring feelings,
• Gain clarity and more control in your life,
• build self-esteem,
• develop coping strategies to manage symptoms of low mood and anxiety.
• Create healing and greater resilience.
What happens next?
Counselling takes place weekly and can be either short term work with a specific focus or longer term. We can discuss what feels appropriate for you at your first session.
I aim to work at your pace, taking time to really understand what is happening for you, and then we can think together about what you need from therapy.
What past clients have said:
"I found the experience of counselling with Helen enabled me to re-focus on what is important to me and to analyse my feelings and behaviours.
"The sessions helped me to get over the stigma of being a man and admitting to having a mental health problem, enabling me to accept that the way I feel is important to my overall wellbeing."
