About me
I am a Consultant General & Colorectal Surgeon at Manchester Royal Infirmary, a tertiary referral centre and one the UK’s leading NHS trusts. After qualifying in 2003 and completing my basic surgical training in Yorkshire, I undertook a period of clinical research at the University Hospital of South Manchester investigating the pathophysiology of pelvic floor pathology. I then completed my higher surgical training in the northwest, gaining expertise in general and colorectal surgery at all the major tertiary centres. My specialist interest is in minimally invasive (keyhole) surgery and I undertook a fellowship in advanced laparoscopic colorectal surgery in Yorkshire prior to taking up my consultant post. I am the lead for colorectal surgery at Manchester Royal Infirmary ensuring patients receive a high standard of care in a timely fashion. More recently I have begun to establish the robotic colorectal service at Manchester Royal Infirmary with the aim of improving outcomes for patients undergoing major colorectal resection.
I have published widely and presented at both national and international meetings. I am actively involved in research and recruit patients to a number of national multicentre clinical trials.
My aim is to deliver patient centred care, building a relationship based on trust and clear communication. I offer best surgical management founded on evidence based practice for general and colorectal surgical conditions including haemorrhoids, anal fissure/fistula, pilonidal sinus, hernias, abdominal pain, rectal bleeding, change in bowel habit, inflammatory bowel disease, functional bowel disease, diverticular disease and bowel cancer.
Away from work I enjoy the outdoors and spending time with my family. I enjoy most sports, particularly tennis and rugby and help out coaching my son’s junior rugby team on a Sunday. I am also a keen skier and fair weather windsurfer.
