About me

I am a Consultant Cardiologist at the Edinburgh Heart Centre and Professor of Clinical Cardiology at the University of Edinburgh. My main clinical interest are in coronary atherosclerosis, heart valve disease, cardiac device implantation (pacemakers, implantable automated defibrillators and cardiac resynchornisation therapy) and imaging the heart (echocardiography, computed tomography, cardiac magnetic resonance and nuclear imaging).

I went to medical school at the University of Edinburgh and completed my clinical training in Edinburgh and London (Royal Brompton Hospital, Hammersmith Hospital, St Thomas’ Hospital). I have also performed several international training fellowships in the United States at Cedars Sinai Medical Center Los Angeles and Mount Sinai Hospital, New York. I have been awarded numerous national and international awards (e.g. British Medical Journal Imaging Team of the Year 2016, Queen’s Anniversary Prize 2015, Sir Jules Thorn Award for Biomedical Research 2015; British Heart Foundation Outstanding Investigator Award 2015). `I have authored more than 250 scientific manuscripts and am on the Editorial Board of several of the world’s leading cardiology journals (e.g. Circulation, Heart). I am a co-author on multiple Expert Consensus Statements for the European Society of Cardiology, and a board member of the European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging. I am regularly invited to give lectures on cardiology around the world.

I welcome referrals in all aspects of general cardiology including hypertension, syncope, chest pain, palpitations, heart failure, discussions about pacemakers/cardiac devices, and valve heart disease.
