About me

I am a skilled and experienced Counselling Psychologist accredited by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and a Chartered member of the British Psychological Society (BPS) in the UK. I completed the required six years full time Masters training programme in South Africa to become a psychologist and graduated in 1998.

Psychology in practice deals with the science of human behaviours and the complexities of the human brain and how it manifests in a person's life. My approach involves, together with the client, identifying and creating a clear and in depth understanding of all the factors that contributed to the clients current symptoms. Based on this information we identify the underlying causes of the current symptoms. Once this is clear, we agree on goals in therapy and the therapy pathway or treatment plan. This includes which therapy techniques will be appropriate. My approach is fairly directive; processing historical experiences and suggesting new skills for the future.

I draw from a wealth of skills I have acquired over the 23 years of practise. These include CBT skills, trauma processing skills, life skills, relationship skills, etc. DBT skills include mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation skills, and interpersonal skills. I have also recently done training in ADHD coaching for young people and adults

I am passionate about helping people to understand and accept themselves but at the same time implementing the necessary changes to live a productive and fulfilled life.
