About me
Andrew Adamson is a Consultant Urologist recently retired from the Royal Hampshire County Hospital and Southampton General Hospital.
Having graduated from Bart’s and trained to registrar level in General surgery, his higher training in urology was completed at St Mary’s Hospital London, Eastbourne District General and finally at Kings College Hospital London. During his training Andrew was active in clinical and basic science research and was awarded an MS in Surgery for work looking into the interaction of the coagulation system and prostate cancer, with a view to detecting novel markers able to predict biological potential of cancer cells at diagnosis. This work took him to the US were he worked at the University of Notre Dame Indiana and was recognised by the award of the prestigious Association of Surgeons in Training Gold medal. This interest in clinical research has continued and in all, Andrew has more than 60 publications in peer-reviewed journals.
Since his appointment in Winchester as a general urologist Andrew has further developed his interest in Uro-oncology and laparoscopy, the latter skill being aided by being awarded a valued Proceptership at the Cleveland Clinic, America. This experience allowed him to offer minimal invasive surgery to more patients with varied urological pathology. He has a particular interest in minimally invasive surgery for adrenal disease, for which he has a regional practice, laparoscopic renal surgery and he provides the laparoscopic prostatectomy service across the Winchester/Southampton axis. He also established the laser stone and laser prostatectomy service at Winchester.
Andrew’s private practice is shared between the Wessex Nuffield Hospital, Chandlers Ford, Southampton, Sarum Road Hospital, Winchester and the Spire Hospital Southampton.
