About me
Mr Alan Highcock is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in private hip replacement and private knee replacement surgery, providing care for privately insured patients in Wirral, Cheshire, Liverpool and North Wales. His practice focuses exclusively on hip and knee conditions, including primary joint replacement, complex revision (re-do) hip and knee replacement and joint preservation surgery.
He is the highest-volume revision hip and knee replacement surgeon in the Mersey and Cheshire region, managing some of the most complex hip and knee replacement cases. He is also the highest-volume augmented-reality�assisted knee replacement surgeon in the UK, using advanced technology to improve accuracy and outcomes in knee replacement surgery.
Mr Highcock has been recognised by ThreeBestRated from 2021 onwards as one of the region's leading Orthopaedic Surgeons, reflecting consistently high standards of patient care and satisfaction.
Born and bred on the Wirral, Mr Highcock completed his medical degree and orthopaedic training in Liverpool before undertaking advanced international fellowship training in adult hip and knee reconstruction. In 2014, he was awarded the prestigious International Allan Gross Fellowship Award, followed by specialist fellowship training at the world-renowned Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto, Canada, under the supervision of Dr Alan Gross and Dr David Backstein.
During this period, he developed specialist expertise in hip replacement, knee replacement, partial knee replacement, and joint preservation surgery for early osteoarthritis, as well as complex revision surgery for failed hip and knee replacements.
Mr Highcock was appointed as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Wirral University Teaching Hospital in 2016. His clinical practice encompasses all aspects of hip and knee arthritis, including private hip replacement, private knee replacement and revision surgery.
In addition to his clinical work, Mr Highcock is Chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee (MAC) at Spire Murrayfield Hospital, with responsibility for clinical governance, quality assurance and patient safety. He is also an education and training partner for MicroPort Orthopaedics, contributing to surgeon education in advanced hip and knee replacement techniques.
Mr Highcock is known for his clear, patient-centred approach, ensuring that patients fully understand their diagnosis and treatment options, allowing them to make informed decisions about private hip or knee replacement surgery.
