About me
I was appointed as a Consultant Gastroenterologist at Manchester Royal Infirmary in 2016 and subspecialise in pancreato-biliary (PB) medicine and the management of reflux disease. I am a core member Spire Manchester Reflux clinic and offer the full spectrum of diagnostic procedures as well as endoscopic treatments (including Stretta).
I see patients with all gastrointestinal complaints including: reflux, indigestion, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, constipation, irritable bowel syndrome and rectal bleeding. I also have significant experience in the management of patients with complicated inflammatory bowel disease, both Ulcerative colitis and Crohns disease, complex pancreatic disease such as acute, recurrent and chronic pancreatitis and problems of the bile duct especially related to gallstones and strictures. I also deal with all gastrointestinal cancers and investigate patients with abnormal blood tests such as iron deficiency anaemia and abnormal liver tests.
I am an expert in the full range of diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy and regularly perform; gastroscopy, colonoscopy, polypectomy, endoluminal stenting, PEG tube insertion, endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) and ERCP (performing over 6,000 procedures).
I am approachable, listen to concerns and work hard to forensically investigate my patients problem. I maintain excellent relations with specialised dieticians, radiologists and surgeons, ensuring the best outcomes for my patients with complex conditions.
I completed a Bachelor of Science degree with honours in 2002 and qualified with distinction in 2004 from Imperial College London. I subsequently completed a PhD in 2014 at the University of Liverpool and was awarded the SHIRE Award for Excellence from the British Society of Gastroenterology for implementing an endoscopy training programme in Malawi, Africa during this time. Following completion of training in 2015 in Manchester, I undertook a year long endoscopy fellowship.
I have been an invited speaker at international conferences and publish important original research in gastrointestinal disorders including bowel cancer. I also actively recruit patients into ground breaking trials, working in collaboration with the Christie Hospital and University of Manchester, where I hold an honorary lectureship.
