About me
I have spent my first 5 years as a consultant developing my skills and consolidating my practice, and have recently commenced surgery in the private sector.
My particular areas of interest:-
Coronary artery bypass grafting, including off-pump CABG, total arterial grafting, multi-arterial grafting and minimally invasive bypass grafting [including robotic single vessel and minimally-invasive multi-vessel bypass grafting].
I am a proctor for off-pump surgery, meaning I train other consultant surgeons to be able to perform off-pump surgery.
I regularly receive referrals from colleagues of complex patients specifically for non-touch [anaortic] total-arterial bypass grafting.
Off-pump surgery offers similar outcomes for 'standard' risk patients compared to on-pump surgery, and lower risks than on-pump surgery for high-risk patients.
Mitral valve surgery including mitral valve replacement and repair. This includes complex multi-valve procedures with or without coronary artery bypass grafting. I undertake a larger proportion of these complex procedures than most of my colleagues.
Minimally-invasive aortic valve replacement.
Traditionally aortic valve replacement is through a full sternotomy. More recently, the aortic valve may be accessed through a small upper partial sternotomy. This procedure allows a shorter hospital stay, less pain and a swifter recovery after leaving hospital.
