About me
Mr Kenny is an experienced orthopaedic surgeon with over 23 years of consultant practice. He studied at the Medical School at Manchester University, where he now holds the post of Honorary Clinical Lecturer. He has also trained overseas in a couple of major trauma centres in Germany and in Canada. He was closely involved in the care of the Manchester bombing victims in 2017.
He specialises in arthroscopic surgery to the knee, total knee replacement, total hip replacement, soft tissue injuries and trauma. He performs over 100 joint replacements per annum. He has a particular interest, and gains a great degree of satisfaction looking after recreational athletes and returning them to full function after injury.
He holds four private clinics per week at the BMI Alexandra Hospital.Patients can usually be seen within 48 hours. He can see patients on the same day by special arrangement.
He holds a weekly operating list at the BMI Alexandra Hospital. He only works with a small number of personally chosen, and very experienced anaesthetists that he has known for a long time. They have expertise in providing regional anaesthetic techniques. They are also very experienced cardiac anaesthetists, and as such are confident in looking after patients with heart disease and other cardiac issues. Post-operatively, patients are guaranteed daily visits in hospital whilst an in-patient.
On a professional level, Mr Kenny continually updates and expands his clinical knowledge by attending relevant courses and by participating in regular audits. His outcome data for joint replacement surgery is gathered by the National Joint Registry.

Mr Kenny’s secretary, Lauren, has worked for him for seven years. She is always available to deal with enquiries. If a message is left, she guarantees that it will be responded to immediately or first thing on the next working day if the office is closed. As such, Lauren is able to provide a prompt and personalised service to patients and relatives. She is also is able to assist with the processes that are involved in obtaining authorisation from insurance companies for treatment.
He holds the role of the Medical Advisory Committee Chair (MAC Chair) at the BMI Alexandra Hospital. The role is similar to the role of a medical director within an NHS hospital. It entails working closely with the hospital’s management team, helping to advise regarding clinical issues and overseeing the governance of doctors who hold practising privileges. He has arranged key educational talks for consultants, GPs and hospital management. A few examples of these important talks are: the Information Commissioner’s talk on data security; the South Manchester Coroner’s talk on the role of the coroner and a talk by airline pilots regarding patient safety (human factors).
He receives instructions from international legal firms to help defend clinical negligence claims within the NHS. His involvement helps him understand how clinical errors are made, and to ensure that his own clinical practice adapts to continually improve patient safety.
On a personal note, he is an elite athlete who competes in, long distance high altitude ultra marathons. These notably include, the Mont Blanc 90km with 6,220 metres vertical ascent and descent; the CCC 101km with 6,100 metres vertical ascent and descent; the Swiss alpine 79km ultramarathon with 3,900 metres vertical ascent and descent and the Swiss Irontrail 127km with 6,546 / 6,731 metres vertical ascent / descent. All races are time trialled with strict cut off times. He often competes in the Brecon Beacons Fan Dance race series, organised by UK ex-special forces personnel. He regularly finishes in the top 30% of participants. Mr Kenny recognises that a healthy, active lifestyle is integral to mental performance.
