Miss Ishrak Hamo MB BCh MCS FRCSI Consultant Oncoplastic Breast Surgeon

Miss Hamo trained as general surgeon and was first female in Sudan to attain a Masters degree in Clinical Surgery and qualify as a Surgeon. She has practised as a consultant surgeon abroad since 1982 before moving to University College Hospital, London to gain further experience in breast surgery, her speciality of interest. She undertook more Oncopastic Breast Surgery training in Royal Liverpool and Whiston Hospitals and attended numerous national and international courses in Oncoplastic Breast surgery and Breast Reconstruction, mainly in Italy and France.

In 2004, Miss Hamo started working as Consultant Breast and General Surgeon in London. She has practised across hospitals in the UK, including The Royal Marsden.

In her post in the Isle of Man, Miss Hamo led and developed the breast services and introduced breast reconstruction, sentinel node biopsy and multidisciplinary meetings, conducted for the first time on the Island. The President of the Association of Breast Surgeons (ABS) applauded Miss Hamo’s efforts and expressed that the then established breast service met and exceeded the requirements of a modern breast unit established by the ABS.

Miss Hamo last NHS substantive Consultant Oncoplastic Breast Surgeon post was at The Royal Bournemouth before she moved to complete private practice.
She specialises in and performs all Oncoplastic breast surgical and reconstructive procedures including therapeutic mammoplasty implant-based & pedicle flap breast reconstruction, breast reduction and augmentation.

Miss Hamo recently raised more than £2,000 for the Bournemouth Hospital Charity in support of breast cancer patients treated at The Royal Bournemouth Hospital.

Miss Hamo is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons Ireland. She is also a member of the Association of Breast Surgeons, European Society of Surgical Oncology (ESSO), the Association of Surgeons of Great Britain & Ireland (ASGBI) and Women in Surgery (WIS)

Areas of interest

Miss Hamo is much interested in Rapid Access Breast Assessment in One stop Breast Clinics, to reassure those with benign disease and management benign breast lumps lumpectomy, cysts, breast pain, infection of the breast ,nipple discharge and male breast problems. More importantly early detection of breast cancer.
Miss Hamo is expert in management of breast cancer / breast cancer surgery employing Oncoplastic techniques; Mammoplasty; Grisotti reconstruction, Mastectomy, immediate and delayed reconstruction; implant based breast reconstruction including pre-pectoral muscle sparing reconstruction; flap reconstruction (LDF). nipple reconstruction; symmetrisation and Cosmotic breast surgery, Reduction, Augmentation Mastopexy (lift), correction of breast congenital breast defects/ anomalies: lipo-filling/modelling.
