About me
I am a colorectal surgeon in Cardiff and Vale University Health Board and Professor of Surgery (Hon) at Cardiff University.
I specialise in treating patients who are having problems controlling their bowels, either rushing to the toilet or having difficulty going to the toilet.
This often occurs after childbirth ,the menopause or after surgery or radiotherapy for conditions such as cancer (LARS - low anterior resection syndrome).
I trained in Cardiff, before working in London, where I completed my research MD in Imperial College, focusing on the outcomes after pelvic surgery in women. After completing my surgical training, I worked in Oxford, where I completed a specialist fellowship in pelvic floor surgery.
I am the Chief Investigator in the POLARiS study, a large international trial looking to improve bowel function in patients who have had surgery for rectal cancer. My research interests include LARS (bowel dysfunction after rectal cancer surgery), injury after childbirth and education around pelvic health with international and national presentations and publications.
Areas of interest
Colorectal Cancer; pelvic floor; rectal prolapse; faecal incontinence; constipation; bowel dysfunction; Haemorrhoids
