About me
Dr Viswanathan is a consultant cardiologist practising at the BMI Huddersfield hospital since 2018. His NHS practice is based jointly at Calderdale Royal Hospital and Huddersfield Royal Infirmary where he is currently Clinical Lead for Cardiology.
Previously, Dr Viswanathan has worked as a Consultant in two large teaching hospitals - the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle-upon-Tyne and the Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospital in London. He has also previously completed a Fellowship in Cardiac Electrophysiology at the prestigious Toronto General Hospital, UHN, Toronto, Canada and is a Certified Electrophysiology Specialist (CEPS) recognised by International Board of Heart Rhythm Examiners (IBHRE), USA.
Dr Viswanathan has substantial experience in managing patients across the full spectrum of cardiac illnesses and runs two general cardiology outpatient NHS clinics every week. He also has subspecialist expertise in managing all types of cardiac rhythm abnormalities or arrhythmias and patients with cardiomyopathies. He currently performs implantation of all cardiac electrical devices, ranging from loop recorders (Linq devices), pacemakers and defibrillators (including cardiac resynchronisation therapy devices).
Dr Viswanathan established a multi-professional Arrhythmia clinic in 2017 that he currently runs every week for the local population served by Calderdale and Greater Huddersfield CCGs- dedicated to providing holistic care via a one-stop clinic for patients diagnosed with supraventricular tachycardia, atrial flutter and atrial fibrillation. This award-winning service has been recognised nationally for its excellent patient outcomes. He also runs an Inherited Cardiomyopathy clinic locally that he established in 2019 in conjunction with the regional service based at Leeds.
Dr Viswanathan is passionate about encouraging patient choice and participation in decision-making and has been instrumental in setting up Patient support groups locally. He is also very active in designing and delivering education and training for aspiring cardiologists, GPs and allied health professionals, both locally and regionally.
