Dr Paul Blaker, Consultant Gastroenterologist and General Physician, is an expert in the in the diagnosis and management of diseases and disorders affecting the oesophagus (e.g. acid reflux), stomach (e.g. ulcers), small and large bowel (e.g. irritable bowel syndrome, inflammatory bowel disease, small intestinal bacterial overgrowth, coeliac disease).
His undergraduate training was completed at Guyâ€™s, Kingâ€™s & St Thomasâ€™ School of Medicine between 1997 and 2003, gaining both a medical degree and a 1st class degree in Neurosciences. After graduation Dr Paul Blaker completed his post-graduate training in internal medicine and gastroenterology at Kingâ€™s, Lewisham, Queen Elizabeth and Guyâ€™s and St Thomasâ€™ hospitals in London and at the Royal Sussex County and Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells Hospitals in the South East.
Dr Paul Blaker spent three years (2010-2013) as a research fellow investigating biomarkers predicting toxicity and response to thiopurine treatment in patients with inflammatory bowel disease. This work was completed under the supervision of Prof Jeremy Sanderson and led to the successful award of a PhD in 2014.
Dr Paul Blaker was appointed as Consultant Physician and Gastroenterologist to the Tunbridge Wells Hospital in 2014. In December 2018 Dr Paul Blaker became the Clinical Director of Specialist Medicine at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust. He is also the Clinical Lead for Inflammatory Bowel Disease at MTW.
