About me
Life can be challenging and changes in life are often distressing. Sometimes clients are not sure what is "wrong" but benefit from a space to explore their difficulties and understand them and this often leads to positive long term change.
Stress can be brought on by changes in social structure, technology, heath, relationships, finance, the environment can all bring different pressures, challenges and conflicts, either within ourselves or with others.
I work with adult clients suffering from a wide range of reactions, which can be brought on by life experiences, such as car accidents to changes in health, home-life, bereavement or work challenges.
Much of this work can involve responding to symptoms such as low mood, anger, anxiety, low motivation and loss of motivation, concentration, engagement and depression as well as physical symptoms; tension, headaches or behavioural such as disturbance around sleep, eating or exercise.
Working with some of these areas might involve introducing coping strategies and supporting disruptive thoughts with CBT techniques .
I have received training in a number of different approaches, and work with an integrative approach. I see individuals privately, and from larger organisations and can offer appointments during the day and some evenings.. I offer short term and longer term counselling, responding to each client's needs.
I also provide solution focussed short-term contracted work with a large local organisation providing short-term counselling (6-8 sessions) , at times using Cognitive Behaviour Therapy techniques. Clients are often given "homework" between sessions to support them through change.
Additionally I offer support for groups in managing stress and building resilience both for private individuals, groups and organisations. I offer a stress management coaching program, which consists of six sessions, learning about stress, how to reduce it, introduce coping strategies and learning how to become more effective and resilient in facing challenges. This often results in a greater sense of wellbeing and self awareness.
I also work with organisations supporting staff in challenging roles with resilience checks, signposting and supporting as appropriate.
Previous experience has included facilitating a support group on behalf of Breast Cancer Care for women with secondary breast cancer and for a number of years I was the recognised trainer
for Training for Care Scotland for Bereavement and Loss..
Sessions can take place face to face, by telephone or online by Zoom. I request a willingness from clients to be open to online or phone sessions following the pandemic to ensure continuity of support.
