About me

I have been a Lower Limb Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon for 25 years. I graduated from the Victoria University of Manchester in 1983 and was appointed as Consultant Surgeon in Orthopaedics and Trauma at Salford Royal NHS Trust (formerly Hope Hospital), a teaching hospital, in 1996. During my training I undertook a two-year research fellowship at the Centre for Hip Surgery at Wrightington Hospital, UK.

In 1994 after 2 years in full time research I was awarded the higher degree of Master of Surgery (ChM) from Manchester University and in 1996 was awarded the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in Orthopaedic Surgery.

My training was broadly based and in keeping with my era of training my practice has continued to be broadly based with approximately 30% of my practice is foot and ankle surgery, 50% knee surgery and 20% Hip surgery.

In April 2013 I elected to leave the formal NHS and practice solely in the independent sector basing both my NHS and Private surgical practice at the Ramsay Oaklands Hospital in Salford.

Surgical Volumes

Since leaving the formal NHS I have maintained a busy outpatient and Orthopaedic lower limb practice. Both in 2018 and 2019 I performed on average 740 operations and in 2017 over 800 operations. In the same years I held in excess of 3000 face to face out patient consultations.

Foot and Ankle
I have extensive expertise in soft tissue injuries, sports injuries, deformities of the foot and ankle as well as painful foot and toenail conditions. I perform keyhole surgery of the ankle and great toe in addition to corrective surgery for midfoot and hindfoot. I have considerable expertise in complex foot disorders and revision foot surgery; approximately 30% of his foot and ankle referrals.

I have in depth expertise in elective knee surgery, I offers arthroscopic (keyhole) surgery, total knee joint replacement surgery. I am one of a relatively small group of surgeons trained in current methods for the treatment of joint surface injury including chondral grafting (relining of the knee joint surface).

Hip and Pelvis

I have more than 25 years experience in hip replacement surgery. In addition I am one of a small number of surgeons in the UK who perform arthroscopic (keyhole) surgery of the hip joint, beneficial in the diagnosis and treatment of painful hip disorders and injuries in young adults.

Total Hip and Total Knee Replacement Surgery.

I have 25 years of experience as a Consultant performing total hip and total knee replacements. I utilise a hip replacement and knee replacement which both have excellent long term results being ODEP 10 year A* rated. My published National Joint register data for primary joint replacement surgery is in line with national norms and can be viewed under 'my outcomes'.
