About me

I am a gynaecological oncologist at the University Hospital of Wales. I commenced my consultant post in January 2013 following completion of my subspecialty training in gynaecological oncology in Nottingham. I undertook my general obstetrics and gynaecology training in several regions of the United Kingdom including Wessex, North West, the Mid Trent and the London deaneries. I feel this has allowed me a broad exposure to a variety of conditions and their management. It has also given me an opportunity to broaden my surgical abilities and I am equally competent at open and minimally invasive surgery. As a gynaecological oncologist, I routinely perform complex surgery. I am competent at open, laparoscopic and robotic surgery. I also run the family history clinic which is service providing advice, information and management options to women with risk of inherited gynaecological cancers.

During my training years, I worked as a research fellow on the UKCTOCS trial (world's largest randomised control trial in ovarian cancer screening) and also completed my PhD from University College London. My PhD looked into refining ultrasound methods in ovarian cancer screening. I continue to maintain an active interest in research and am Principal Investigator for a number of trials at the University Hospital of Wales site.

I am committed to a role in teaching and education. I have previously been a member of the editorial board of the StratOG which is an educational resource provided by the RCOG, I am actively involved in running postgraduate teaching and courses. I am an honorary lecturer at University College London and participate in teaching on the intercalated BSc programme for medical students and MSc in Women’s Health. I am currently the deputy training programme director for sub specialty training in gynaecological oncology in Cardiff. I am the lead for robotic surgery in gynaecological oncology at University Hospital of Wales. I am also the Welsh representative in the British Gynaecological Cancer Society.

I have several peer reviewed publications and continue to attend and actively present at national and international meetings.
