About me
Before qualifying as a counsellor I had a long career as a manager in the finance industry. It was only after I took redundancy that I decided to set about achieving a long held ambition to start up my private practice as a counsellor. For me it was a natural transition as I have always had an open door policy at work with staff and colleagues who wanted to see me to discuss a particular problem or to share something that was on their mind. During this time I became aware of how communication plays an important part in meeting an individuals needs for both adults and children alike - how important it is to have a voice and be heard.
I am a qualified and accredited Person Centred counsellor and this is complemented by training in other approaches. I am an accredited member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy and I am bound by and adhere to its Ethical Framework for Good Practice. I am committed to ongoing professional development and regularly attend professional training, workshops, conferences and seminars; I also receive regular supervision in order to maintain a high level of competence. I hold full professional liability insurance and an enhanced DBS check.
I believe that we all need to talk and that this is sometimes very difficult to talk to those closest to us in fear of upsetting them. That is why talking to someone experienced who is not emotionally involved and who is trained to hear you without judging or giving advice can really make a difference.
As a counsellor I will work with you, respecting your values, culture and autonomy.
In addition to my private work, I work in two higher education schools dealing with children aged up to 18 I have been volunteer for Cruse Bereavement Care for both adults and Children and Young People, I am a member of a team who volunteer support during major sporting and cultural events across the country and for major incidents – I was one of only a handful of Cruse counsellors on standby at the London 2012 Olympics. I have also provided counselling services for a local Drug and Alcohol service Oasis Health and Wellbeing.
