About me
Mr Ashwin Unnithan is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in hip and knee conditions, with a high-volume hip and knee replacement practice, including robotic-assisted hip and knee replacement. His practice also includes revision hip and knee replacement, partial knee replacement, knee arthroscopy and meniscal surgery.
Every consultation starts with understanding your symptoms, how they affect your life and what you want to get back to. Mr Unnithan discusses suitable non-surgical and surgical options, including the benefits, risks and recovery involved, to help you make an informed decision. He also welcomes patients seeking a second opinion or advice about problems with an existing joint replacement.
Robotic technology can support planning and assist with aspects of joint replacement under the surgeon's control. Its suitability, the approach and the equipment available will be discussed during your consultation.

He completed his basic surgical training in Surrey and Sussex and undertook a Masters at University College London and the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital. He completed higher surgical training on the South-West London rotation, including a trauma fellowship in New Zealand, followed by specialist fellowships at the Bristol Hip Unit and the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital.
He has published in peer-reviewed journals, including The Bone & Joint Journal, and presented at international meetings. He is actively involved in research and service development and won first prize for a presentation at the British Hip Society meeting in 2024.
