About me
I am a Consultant in Nephrology and Acute General Medicine.
Following qualification in 2004, I received training in numerous medical specialties in South Wales and Cambridge before entering the All-Wales Nephrology Higher Training Scheme in 2008. I completed my specialist training in 2016 in both Nephrology and Acute General Medicine.
I am happy to consult in all areas of kidney disease including dialysis and transplantation. Since I also hold accreditation and regularly practice general internal medicine, I am able to provide consultation in specialisms outside my own. I am also available for medico-legal work.
I perform my Consultant duties at several locations within South-East Wales including Rhondda Cynon Taf and Cardiff & Vale. I am currently clinical lead for acute medicine at the University Hospital Llandough.
I have a particular interest in kidney disorders related to exercise and exertional heat injury as this was the subject of my PhD research. My work is internationally recognised and I have published and presented my findings in the USA, Far East and Europe. I peer-review research and I have contributed to the first-ever national guidelines for physical activity in patients with chronic kidney disease.
Teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels is a fervent interest of mine. I am a Training Programme Director for Internal Medicine and a regular examiner for the Royal College of Physicians.
