About me
I am a Consultant Dermatologist at the Welsh Institute of Dermatology, University Hospital of Wales and Honorary Professor at Cardiff University. I trained in dermatology at the St. John's Institute of Dermatology (London), the Welsh Institute of Dermatology (Cardiff), and the National Cancer Institute (NIH, USA). I was a recipient of a number of awards, including the Geoffrey Dowling Fellowship (2004), the most prestigious fellowship awarded by the British Association of Dermatologists; Post-Doctoral Visiting Fellows Research Fellowship (2004), National Cancer Institute, National Institutes of Health; NIH Merit Award (2006), National Cancer Institute, National Institutes of Health; NISCHR Clinical Research Fellowship (2012). I served as Dermatology Clinical Lead and Skin Cancer Lead at Hywel Dda University Health Board. In 2016, I returned to the Welsh Institute of Dermatology as a substantive Consultant Dermatologist.
I am a specialist in general dermatology, with clinical and scientific interests in skin cancer.
My interest in dermatology began in 1996, when I was a junior doctor in the dermatology department in Cardiff. Since that time, I have cared for patients with common and rare skin diseases. I have extensive knowledge of managing skin lesions, including cancerous lesions. Each year I see over 1,000 new patients with skin problems, and regularly deal with things that are a tad bothersome as well as those that are life-threatening.
I have previously been dermatology clinical lead and skin cancer lead in Hywel Dda University Health Board.
As well as being a consultant dermatologist, I am an Honorary Professor and head of the skin cancer research programme at Cardiff University.
