About me

Dr Fiona McCartan studied Medicine at Queen's University in Belfast. She is a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists and was accepted onto the Specialist Register of the GMC in 2009, holding her Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training (CCST) in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. She obtained Postgraduate Diplomas in Mental Health with Distinction, Mental Health Law with Commendation and a Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education. In addition to her specialist training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, she has also completed additional postgraduate training in Adolescent Forensic Psychiatry. She has also completed additional postgraduate training in a wide range of therapies, including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Family Therapy, Motivational Interviewing and Solution Focussed Therapy.

Dr McCartan is a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist and has been working in a substantive consultant role in Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) within the NHS since February 2010. She is the clinical lead for a local CAMHS Crisis Resolution Service and has been involved in service developments in this area. She also has been involved in the development of Forensic CAMHS services within Northern Ireland. Dr McCartan has extensive experience and expertise in the assessment and treatment of a wide range of mental health problems affecting children and young people. In addition to her specialist training, experience and expertise on Forensic Mental Health and Specialist Risk assessment, she has also previously worked in Woodlands Juvenile Justice Centre in Bangor. Having completed both her ADOS-2 and DISCO training and working with young people with ASD as part of her day to day practice, Dr McCartan also has extensive expertise in both the assessment and management of ASD and its co-morbidities.
