About me

Main areas of interest are arthroscopic and open shoulder surgery for recurrent instability and impingement syndrome, rotator cuff tears, and frozen shoulder as well as acromioclavicular joint problems and shoulder joint replacement.

Also has an interest in elbow surgery including tennis and golfers elbow and ulna nerve release, plus minor hand surgery including carpal tunnel decompression.

Academic background

Mr Lawrence qualified as a doctor in 2003 from St Barts & the London School of Medicine & Dentistry. Whilst in London, he gained a BSc (Hons) degree in Anatomy and Development Biology from the University College London.

He completed a surgical rotation as a junior doctor at Broomfield Hospital. Mr Lawrence then started Specialist Registrar Training on the East Anglian training programme in 2008, rotating through different hospitals in the region. Whilst a senior trainee in Cambridge, he was the Chief Resident for the Musculoskeletal Directorate and Cambridge Orthopaedic Club Secretary.

Mr Lawrence passed the FRCS (Trauma & Orthopaedics) examination in 2014. In 2015 he was awarded Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training in Trauma & Orthopaedics and was granted specialist recognition by the GMC.

He has completed two post-CCT Fellowships in Shoulder Surgery in the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary and Southampton General Hospital. The focus of both fellowships was on shoulder surgery including arthroscopic, open and arthroplasty techniques. Mr Lawrence was also awarded the Watanabe Travelling Fellowship which allowed him to visit eminent shoulder and elbow surgeons across the UK to increase his breadth of experience.

Mr Lawrence continues to have an interest in teaching, having been awarded an Associate Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy. He has published in peer-reviewed journals and presented nationally and internationally on research related to shoulder surgery as well as co-authored a book chapter.
