About me

I am a Clinical Psychologist with 25 years+ experience of working with children, young people and families. I have worked in the NHS for 20 years and also in a University setting and a third sector organisation. I work individually with children and adolescents and offer therapeutic work for a range of presenting difficulties. I use principles from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) in this work. I have a particular interest and experience in working with a range of anxiety difficulties including trauma symptoms, obsessive compulsive symptoms, separation anxiety and generalised anxiety difficulties.

I have a lot of experience in working with children & adolescents who are neurodivergent and who have experienced trauma. I believe that when families have a thorough understanding of their child's needs, they are better able to support them in an attuned and sensitive way. I have a lot of experience in working with families where the child's needs are "masked" and, as a result, the people around them need support in understanding this more clearly.

I have developed particular expertise in the area of parenting and draw on attachment theory to understand how children's behaviours are shaped and developed. I enjoy working with parents to explore their own patterns and needs in relation to their parenting. Therefore, in addition to the individual work with children / adolescents, I am also able to offer a range of parenting support aimed at helping parents understand and manage their children's needs. This can be particularly helpful when young people are reluctant to engage in the therapeutic work themselves.

I am compassionate in my approach and will work with a family to develop a shared understanding of their child's needs. We will work collaboratively in therapy and help you to develop the tools to manage the issues. I draw on the research evidence in the work that I do to ensure that my practice is up to date, but will also tailor it to the individual young person.

Although my website www.insightpsy.co.uk is a specific service set up for families of neurodivergent children (e.g. ADHD / Autism). I also have extensive experience of working with families where the young person does not have ADHD / autism and am happy to take these referrals.
